The Saltair Series is a romantic-comedy-drama that began during the pandemic. By chance, our fated couple meet overseas in Australia as their romance stretched from Saltair Avenue in L.A. to waltzing all over Texas via Facetime.

It's late-in-midlife when these two divorced people find each other, fall madly in love and discover their purpose.

They also discover what began half a century earlier.

But Gerry was there to remind her that we don’t live for ourselves, we live to serve others. Book 2 in the Saltair Series

They discover that all the things that mattered now were different than the things that mattered yesterday. Book 3 in the Saltair Series

The Fear of Success

“As far as your book goes, what are you afraid of? Success?” Gerry asked, looking at me earnestly.

“I used a pen name because, yes, I’m afraid of blowing my cover,” I laughed. I was confessing everything to this handsome man.

“So if I’m reading your mind correctly, some part of you does want your ex to read what you wrote about your divorce?” Gerry asked.

I smiled at his mind-reading ability and nodded.

Party Conversation

“Gerry read my book and wanted to meet me,” I told him.

“What was your book about?” Bran asked.

“It’s a cookbook on what to do with your ex-husband’s body,” I answered.

Seduction

“I remember your shy kindness and yet you just oozed seduction,” Gerry said to me, reminding me of our meeting.

He put his fingertip on my bottom lip and said, “You took my breath away. Your kisses were perfect and touched me down deep in my soul. You were falling in love with me, not some movie star, not some celebrity, or rich guy. Me. I would never take sides against you, not with anyone. You’re my hero because you saved me, Wife.”

Swash Buckled

“I like this little game we’re playing,” I said, smiling coyly.

“It’s called role-playing, my dear,” he said, all swashbuckling-like.

“You’re very good at it.”

“Well, I have been nominated,” Mr. Movie Star reminded me.

Death Threats

The same day that Gerry’s film had won awards, someone had poisoned my horse Mojave in his stall at Malibu Stables. It was not a coincidence and although he had survived it, it was beyond evil.

“If they hurt an animal, they might hurt our kids or grandkids,” Gerry said. “Probably some fans. I haven’t told you this, but there have been lots of death threats since we married.” Gerry stopped talking as I looked him full in the face.

“Toward me?” I asked. He said yes and I didn’t know which way to turn. “Oh, Gerry, why are you just now telling me?”

“Why would I ever tell you?” he asked. “There was nothing credible up until today, and I’m sure this came about because of the awards. I couldn’t imagine telling you every time some lunatic wrote an insane letter; that would terrify you.”

The Hardness of Soft People

I thought about the softness of this generation and how hard it had made their hearts. They had no real injustice to fight against, no real fear for their first-world lives. Everything was so democratic and easy and yet they complained as if it were a daily chore to find some offence.
